Type Locality and Naming

Central Sichuan (Leshan). The Lanbaoping Fm was named by the No.207 Party of Geology, Sichuan Bureau of Geology in 1964. The type locality Lanbaoping is on the north bank of Jinkou River, Ebian County, Sichuan Province. Uppermost formation in the Mesoproterozoic portion of the Ebian Gr.

Synonym: （烂包坪组）


Lithology and Thickness

The Lanbaoping Fm is subdivided into two parts. Lower part is of interbedding of green, green-grey rhyolitic, andesitic, basaltic tuff with tuffaceous sandy conglomerate and metamorphosed basalt. The base is conglomerate. Upper part consists of interbedding of greyish, purple-grey, purple-red metamorphosed basalt and basaltic tuff. The formation is 320-400 m thick

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is in disconformable contact with underlying Jiadanqiao Fm.

Upper contact

It is in conformable contact with Suxiong Fm / Cizhuping Fm.
